There are two main questions to consider when creating a disaster recovery plan:
1) Do you have a backup plan should your server, computer or laptop fail? A good disaster recovery plan, enables an organization to quickly restart operations in the event of a human-caused event or natural disaster. We recommend using encryptoOBE, which is a backup encryption program used to automatically backup your data. encryptoOBE uses external, removable hard drives to backup your data and is designed to backup
any software package. You can automatically backup any software program including Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Dentech Windows, digital x-rays, intraoral camera images, Quickbooks, any Word documents, etc. In practice, one hard drive is connected to
the server via USB port and a second hard drive is kept off site as a daily backup. A third hard drive is recommended and is kept off site as a monthly backup.
When using tapes and in the event of a failure the server must be fixed prior to restoring the backup, increasing the total amount of downtime. Using encryptoOBE with removable hard drives, should your server fail for any reason, this allows you to quickly restore your data on another machine by simply plugging in the USB or Firewire external hard drive backup.
